Córtex I is a hand-crafted resin sculpture created by the creative duo Las Ánimas (Trini Salamanca and Pablo Párraga) in collaboration with TotCor Project and plastic artist Pepa Reverter. The piece is created by using rotational moulding techniques. It is a hybrid piece, blending design, art and craftsmanship, and forms part of a limited edition series within the TotCor Art Edition collection. It is a unique piece, complex to produce due to its shapes and volumes, with numerous recesses, protrusions and hollows that complicate the working process. Resin’s fluidity and malleability are central to Las Ánimas’ practice, but working with the material requires precision. Temperature, heat, humidity and rotation can all influence the outcome. Hence there lies an element of unpredictability: once the mould is opened, the material can reveal unexpected colours, textures and effects. It is this balance between precision and chance that gives each piece its distinctive character.
