by JULIO MARTÍNEZ BARNETCHE, 2019

MATERIALS: White Quartz from the Cascavel Mine, Novo Horizonte, Bahía Brazil, direct carving

Integrated light source to illuminate the White Quartz.

This intricate sculpture also serves as a subtle light source, when turned on to illuminate this beautiful specimen of Quartz. This piece of White Quartz is from an important mine in Brazil and sensibly carved by the artist in an organic language that follows the specificities of the stone and how the artist encounters them while working and engaging with the stone. Two pieces of wood hold the stone so that it floats in the air and can receive light from all around in 360 degrees. The slender, hand-carved wooden sticks again are held my a set of hand-forged brass arms, in an interesting mechanical structure that allows the piece to swivel. All brass is hand-forged and directly carved by the artist.

This series of sculptures boasts a reduced simplicity and technical wit while making curious about its function. Is there one? Its function has to be understood as sculptural work to engage with. Enlightened from within, through its mini light, it shines and illuminates itself. A mystical piece of work, for a curious viewer.

THIS PIECE IS SOLD. THE ARTIST CAN WORK ON A SIMLAR BESPOKE PIECE. Please enquire.
